On The Road Blog for A Man of Certain Age
I had taken many personal trips, on the road around the world, during my two decades of Corporate life. Until now.
Reaching my 60-year-old landmark, being fortunate and having felt bold enough to wave a final goodbye to my 9-to-5 hamster wheel, I began to realize that time off is a pleasure without guilt and a meander without a destiny. It was my turn for tooling around, to savor the “Parts Unknown” for real. In addition, as Bourdain, my favorite host of that enthralling program, chose to rest, for good, he had planted a seed in my mind. It was all the more reason for me to hit the wide-open road.

After five hours on the dark-blue sea, my dream ferry docked at Yarmouth. The port town of 6,500 population is on the southwestern edge of Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s three maritime provinces. In my simple mind, the more deeply I explore the land extending into the ocean, the closer I can get to the kingdom […]

It turns out that Portland has something exceptional for anyone who comes. I chose to get off the train and stay in Portland, Maine mainly because I needed to take the ferry ride from there to Nova Scotia, Canada. But since I was in no hurry, why not spend some time to get to know […]

In the month of July, steamy and toasty in North Carolina, I followed migratory birds instead of glossy travel guides, heading north by riding a train. Besides, I intended to take the time to slow down, thus traveling by train came to mind for the first time since moving to America. Plus, a train is […]
